5 Things to do in Edinburgh in May

There is always plenty to see and do in Edinburgh. As the weather improves ahead of summer, May is the perfect time to explore the city. From peaceful spots away from the crowds to special events at The Real Mary King’s Close, there are many exciting things to do in Edinburgh.

Admire the Royal Botanic Garden

Free to enter, the Botanics look wonderful in every season and every visit is a new experience. There are plenty of plants that blossom and release perfume in the Spring. The Japanese magnolia that blooms throughout the gardens is one of the many stunning sights you will likely be able to see if you visit in May.

Stroll around the Meadows

Spring is the perfect time to wander around The Meadows. Enjoy the sunshine (when it rarely decides to make an appearance) and see the blossoming trees. It is the perfect place to relax away from the crowds of the city centre.

Explore Dean Village

Only a short walk from the bustling city centre and by the Water of Leith is the picturesque Dean Village. You can see the remains of water mills and the famous Well Court. It is a must-visit if you enjoy art because Dean Village is also home to the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and The Dean Gallery.

Eat at Amber Restaurant

Enjoy delicious, seasonally-inspired signature dishes at Amber Restaurant, part of The Scotch Whisky Experience. The Amber Whisky Bar has over 450 incredible drams to choose from, including hidden gems waiting to be discovered. You can even try some tasty traditional food from the Taste of Scotland tasting menu. May is International Whisky Month, which means that it is the perfect time to visit.
