August is a month filled with exciting cultural events in Edinburgh. The city is bustling with people and there is plenty to see and do. Here are our top things to do in Edinburgh in August 2022.
This year is the 75th anniversary of the Edinburgh Fringe. For three weeks in August, Edinburgh welcomes creatives from across the world. The performances across the city include theatre, comedy, dance, musicals and so much more. We recommend seeing “Plague”, which is on from Monday 15th until Saturday 27th August at 4.50pm. Set in 1348, the Black Death is approaching a small Yorkshire village and the residents argue over how to deal with the threat. Book here

The Real Mary King’s Close is opening later this summer to allow more visitors to experience our five star visitor attraction. You can walk the 17th century closes and hear the real stories of the real former residents on one of our guided tours. After seeing “Plague”, we are the perfect place to hear about how Edinburgh residents faced outbreaks of pestilence and the true stories of the city’s plague doctors.
Another brilliant festival this August is the Edinburgh International Book Festival, making the city the perfect destination for bookworms. With over 600 events, both virtual and at their central location at the Edinburgh College of Art.
With incredible views of Edinburgh Castle and the Scot Monument, it is a great place to enjoy the sunshine (when it makes a rare appearance). It is located next to the busy shopping street Princes Street, right in the heart of Edinburgh.
