Booking Terms and Conditions

Any person booking and/or visiting The Real Mary King’s Close does so subject to the following conditions. Please review our terms and conditions carefully before making a booking.

Before you book

• Payment: All tickets are non-refundable. Full pre-payment must be made for all people visiting The Real Mary King’s Close. If you pay for your tour at our Admissions Office on the Royal Mile, please note that we operate a cashless payment system and only accept payment via bank card.
• Cashless. Please note that we operate a fully cashless system at The Real Mary King’s Close. We do not accept cash payments, or card payments via American Express. Make sure to bring a valid debit or credit card on the day of your tour.

Ticket types & booking changes

• Standard Tickets: You can change your booking date and time up to 4 hours before your tour. Click here to change your tickets. The transfer of your booking is subject to availability and cannot be used for any special events or products from our shop. You can reschedule your visit to a date within the next 12 months
• Essential Tickets: You can change the date and time of your booking up to 4 hours before your tour for an additional £15 admin fee per booking.  Click here to change your tickets. The transfer of your booking is subject to availability and cannot be used for any special events or products from our shop. You can reschedule your visit to a date within the next 12 months. If you originally booked a Standard ticket prior to 1st February 2026, this will be now an Essential Ticket.
• During our peak season (June, July and August), only Standard tickets are available to book.

Cancellations & Attendance

• Cancellation: Standard fees for late cancellation are 100% of the booking. To notify us of the potential cancellation of your booking, please contact us.
• Arrival / Late arrival: We ask all visitors to arrive at least 10 minutes before their scheduled tour time. The Real Mary King’s Close reserves the right to refuse entry to any visitors arriving after their scheduled tour time. The Real Mary King’s Close retains absolute discretion as to whether late-arriving visitors will be charged for their tour. Standard fees for late arrival will be 100% of the booking.
• No-shows: The Real Mary King’s Close retains absolute discretion as to whether visitors who do not arrive for their tour will be charged. Standard fees for no-shows are 100% of the booking.

Promotional offers

Summer of Savings Scheme

• Offer valid on eligible admission tickets for visits taking place between 25 June 2026 and 1 September 2026 inclusive.
• Any Government Summer Saver VAT reduction and/or additional attraction discounts have already been incorporated into the ticket prices shown where applicable.
  No promotional code is required.
• Offer applies to selected ticket types and experiences only.
• Exclusions may apply.
• Discounted prices are subject to availability and may be withdrawn, amended or extended at any time without notice.
  Unless otherwise stated, the offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotion, discount, or third-party offer.
• Offer has no cash value and cannot be exchanged for cash or credit.
• Standard attraction booking terms and conditions apply.

Visiting the attraction

• Children: We do not accept any children under the age of 5 on our tour. All children from 5 to 15 years old have to be accompanied by an adult. 
• Translator: Any groups wishing to bring a translator will be required to book a private tour. To book a private tour, please contact us.
• Audio guides and multimedia guides are available in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Hungarian, Polish, Dutch, Mandarin and Cantonese via our FREE app. We also offer them in British Sign Language (BSL) and International Sign Language (ISL) Click here to find out more. • Photography: Photography is prohibited during any tour at The Real Mary King’s Close.
• Extras: All extras must be redeemed on the day of the visit. Extras are non-refundable.

Right of refusal

The Real Mary King’s Close reserves the right to refuse entry on to a tour or remove any person who:

• Arrives late for their tour
• Is suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol
• Does not respect the historical nature of the attraction
• Behaves in a manner which is disruptive to the enjoyment of other visitors.
• Behaves in a manner which compromises the safety of other visitors or staff.
• Uses verbal or physical threats or insults toward any member of staff.
